WHAT WE DO: We are a new beauty therapy business within Ultra Tan and Beauty on Newland Avenue. Masquerade is run part-time from a cosy room at the back of Ultra Tan and offers a wide range of beauty treatments. We do manicures, pedicures, waxing and facials. We also offer a variety of eye treatments from lash extensions to lash and eyebrow tinting. For those who want to relax and de-stress we can provide Indian head massages and full body massages. We will soon be offering microdermabrasion which is a treatment that removes the top layer of dead skin cells, reducing fine lines and wrinkles and leaving people looking younger and fresher. Masquerade is open all day on Thursday Friday and Saturday..
WHO WE ARE: Masquerade is run by 27-year-old Yasmin Gilbert of Beverley Road. Yasmin set up the beauty business after completing her first year of a B-Tec national diploma in beauty therapy science with distinction at Hull College. She is now splitting her time between her second, and final, year of studying and running Masquerade. She has also just been nominated as ‘Student Of The Year’ at the college.
Yasmin had been looking for a part time job last April and was handing her CV around the city when she came across the notice at Rosie Mason for a self-employed beauty therapist. After some thought she decided to set up the business in order to start building a loyal client base prior to finishing at college. She said: "I hadn't even considered setting up my own business but I happened to walk past Rosie Mason and see they wanted someone, so I popped in and had a look and really liked it and I just thought if I don't do it now I will be waiting until I finish college then starting from scratch." Yasmine has always wanted to be a beauty therapist, so after leaving her previous job on maternity leave while she bought up her son, who is now three, she decided to enrol at Hull College and retrain. She claims her favourite part of the job is seeing the transformation of clients as they pass through. She said: "I just love seeing somebody coming in and saying, "Oh I don't feel too good, I wouldn't mind a facial," and then they go out feeling fantastic." (from the Hull Daily Mail)
